Intensive Psychotherapy

All intensive sessions are offered only after an initial consultation and assessment has been provided. It is important to ensure that the combination of your therapy goals, my approach and the intensive work will provide you with the highest level of healing and results. This is best achieved by ensuring that all the elements in the therapy work are best suited to your therapy outcome and therapy goals.

Intensive psychotherapy is paced to support the client and works on the basis that each client has all the resources and skills they require within them to heal. A focus on the work is to provide psychoeducation, resources to support and assist with affect regulation – each client is taught how to recognise when they are experiencing their difficult and challenging symptoms and how to manage and calm themselves and manage in and out of sessions.

The therapy’s primary goal is to help the client integrate memories so they are stored adaptively in the brain as a  past memory and do not interfere with day to day life through negative thoughts or  body sensations. The impact of being triggered and remembering a past trauma that feels like it is happening now stops when the memory and felt memory has been processed. This is achieved by working at a pace that is safe to allow you to overcome internal resistance to experiencing true feelings about the present and past which have been warded off because they are either too frightening or too painful.

Clients undertake intensive therapy because of either their symptoms or interpersonal difficulties. Symptoms include traditional psychological problems like anxiety and depression, but they also include physical symptoms without medically identifiable cause, such as headache, shortness of breath, diarrhea, nightmares, poor sleep, irritable bowel syndrome or sudden weakness to name a few.

Intensive Psychotherapy is conducted for 3 – 4 hours on a single day or on three or four days in the same week. It is recommend that a holistic approach is best and during the intensive sessions you can  be supported with complementary therapies such as Massage, Amethysts Crystal Biomat, Naturopathy, Yoga, or Tai Chi. These services can all be offered in the one location with each of these therapists available to support your needs as required.

A range of interventions and techniques are used to support the individual client’s  therapy goal. I will choose the most effective type of therapy for your individual needs and issues. These are discussed and agreed with each client to ensure that the client understands what each therapy is and how it is useful to resolve your particular issue or symptom – this ensures that you are active in the decision process.
